Ultraman: Rising Thoughts

Official release poster

I initially heard about this movie through a post I saw on Tiktok, showing a clip of one of the scenes, however I don’t remember which it was. Either way, the clip caught my interest so I decided to watch the movie for myself! One Friday night in July while my roommate was away, I grabbed a bag of Goldfish and a Pepsi and watched the movie on my laptop. While I had never heard of the Ultraman series, I was familiar with the Kaiju monster movies so it wasn’t too hard to infer where the character, Ultraman, fit into that universe. And, in my totally legit professional opinion, I thought it was a great movie! I thought the writing was entertaining and heartfelt with a good message behind it. The animation style was gorgeous, sort of reminiscent of the Spiderverse animation style, but that type of animation is arguably top tier so it’s always great to take inspiration from things that work. The characters were well made and had realistic, well-paced arcs. The main protagonist I hated in the beginning, but as the movie progressed and so did his arc, I was impressed with how well written he was. Overall, awesome movie, Emi stole the show, best girl.
